SPRING VALLEY: Two Arrested In September 2025 Fatal Shooting On Dutch Lane Following Months-Long Investigation

More than six months after a deadly shooting rocked a quiet neighborhood, the Spring Valley Police Department has announced the arrests of two suspects in connection with the homicide.

Authorities say the incident occurred on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 5:12 PM, when officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 2 Dutch Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 20-year-old male unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police immediately began CPR until EMS arrived on scene. The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Following what officials describe as an intensive and coordinated investigation, police on April 16, 2026 arrested 21-year-old Ramapo resident Doodly Metellus and 20-year-old Spring Valley resident Smay Dornaison.

During the arrest of Metellus, officers recovered a loaded firearm in his possession, authorities said.

Metellus has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A felony, as well as Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony. Dornaison has also been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A felony.

Both suspects were arraigned in the Village of Spring Valley Justice Court before Judge Mellion and were remanded to the Rockland County Jail.

Spring Valley Police credited multiple agencies for their assistance in the investigation, including the FBI New York–Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Intelligence Unit, and K-9 Unit, the Ramapo Police Department, and the MTA Police K-9 Unit.

Officials remind the public that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
