Spring Valley officials, led by Trustee Yisroel Eisenbach, are actively working to address the ongoing flooding issues on Melnick Drive. The problem, which has plagued the area for years, was once again highlighted on Wednesday when heavy rainfall led to severe flooding blocking traffic in both directions and forcing cars to reroute.
The flooding not only caused significant disruption but also posed safety risks, as several vehicles became stranded, requiring rescue efforts as Monsey Scoop reported on our social media platforms. This recurring scenario has raised concerns among local residents and passersby, who are increasingly frustrated with the lack of a permanent solution.
On this occasion, Thursday afternoon, volunteers from Chaverim of Rockland provided temporary relief by clearing the waterlogged street, restoring access and allowing traffic to flow again, with hopes that the water would be cleared and the street reopened within the next few hours as of 1:45PM.. However, the underlying drainage issues remain unaddressed, leaving the road vulnerable to future flooding.
“I personally witnessed the disaster yesterday,” Eisenbach told Monsey Scoop. “This situation is unacceptable, and my colleagues and I are fully committed to finding a long-term solution to prevent this from happening again. On behalf of the village, I would like to thank the volunteers of Chaverim of Rockland for their incredible work in clearing the street and for all they do for our community.”
As efforts to resolve the issue gain momentum, the community hopes for a solution that will finally put an end to Melnick Drive’s persistent flooding woes.
