A years-long investigation into a 2020 shooting on Kearsing Parkway has concluded with a conviction and prison sentence, Spring Valley Police announced.
On Saturday, June 6, 2020, at approximately 2:33 p.m., Spring Valley Police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple spent shell casings and several damaged vehicles throughout a parking lot, prompting an extensive investigation.
The following day, June 7, 2020, detectives traced leads to a nearby apartment where a .38 Smith & Wesson revolver was recovered. The resident, Garlain Francois of Spring Valley, was federally charged for possessing the firearm, though investigators determined it was not the gun used in the shooting.
As the investigation progressed, a person of interest was identified, and on March 13, 2025, Spring Valley Police—working alongside the FBI NY Westchester Safe Streets Task Force and the Haverstraw Police Department—took Pedro Cintron-Acosta, a Haverstraw resident, into custody.
Cintron-Acosta was arraigned in Spring Valley Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail.
On September 16, 2025, he pleaded guilty in Rockland County Court before Judge Djinsad Desir to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. On December 9, 2025, he was sentenced to five years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. Police confirmed the firearm used in the shooting was ultimately recovered.
The Spring Valley Police Department extended its appreciation to partner agencies that assisted in bringing the case to a close, including:
FBI NY Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, Town of Haverstraw Police Department, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Palisades Interstate Parkway Police, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and Chaverim of Rockland.
