Spring Valley Police Warn Residents About Post Office Mailbox Fraud

The Spring Valley Police Department is alerting residents about a rise in mail thefts from official U.S. Postal Service mailboxes in recent years. Authorities say suspects have been gaining unauthorized access to the blue collection boxes in an attempt to steal checks, money orders, and cash that may be inside mailed envelopes.

Police are urging residents to take extra precautions when sending sensitive or valuable mail. Officials recommend that residents place important mail directly inside the post office rather than depositing it in outdoor collection boxes.

Anyone who notices suspicious activity near a mailbox or believes mail may have been tampered with is urged to contact the Spring Valley Police Department at 845-356-7400 or dial 911 immediately.
