Spring Valley Police Urge Pedestrians to Wear Reflective Gear for Nighttime Safety

Spring Valley Police Department is urging residents to take extra precautions when walking outdoors at night, emphasizing the importance of visibility for pedestrian safety.

In a recently released safety video, police highlight how wearing a reflective safety belt can significantly improve a pedestrian’s visibility to drivers, giving motorists more time to see, react, and avoid potential accidents—particularly on dark or poorly lit roadways.

The department also announced that reflective safety belts are available free of charge at the Spring Valley Police Department headquarters for community members, while supplies last. Officials encourage residents to stop by the station and pick one up as part of their ongoing effort to reduce nighttime pedestrian incidents.

Police remind the public that increased awareness and visibility are key to preventing accidents, urging everyone to “be seen and be safe.”

  1. It would also be very beneficial if the village clears the snow on the sidewalks on Union Road and some other busy areas. The roads are with a few feet narrower because of the snow and there are much more pedestrians on the roads cuz the sidewalks are non walkable.
