The Spring Valley Police Department has been awarded a $61,552 grant through the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program to strengthen its efforts in preventing gun violence and potential mass shooting threats.
The funding will be used to enhance the department’s Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) program, a key initiative under New York State’s Red Flag Law. This law allows officers to petition the courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals considered a danger to themselves or others.
Since 2022, Spring Valley officers have filed over 100 ERPO applications in Rockland County Supreme Court, demonstrating a strong commitment to proactive public safety measures.
Officials say this grant is not only a financial investment but a recognition of the department’s leadership and dedication in safeguarding the community.
