On August 10th, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., two females were walking on Lawler Blvd. when a vehicle drove by, and a projectile was fired, striking one of the women. While both victims were unharmed, they reported that the occupants of the vehicle shouted anti-Semitic slurs before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Spring Valley police officers and detectives launched an immediate investigation. Over the course of several weeks, authorities identified and located the suspects involved in the incident. It was later determined that the projectile had been fired from a toy gun that shot gel pellets.
As a result of the investigation, two juveniles and 19-year-old Nicholas Sanchez, a resident of Spring Valley, were arrested. Sanchez was charged with Aggravated Harassment in the 2nd degree, a charge based on race and religion. All defendants have been released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The Spring Valley Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all community members and is continuing to investigate the incident.
