The Spring Valley Police Department announced the federal conviction of Jonathan Alvarez, 29, and Edwin Alvarez, 30, both of Spring Valley, for possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, a violation of federal statute 18 U.S.C. 924(c).
The investigation began in July 2023, when the New York State Police Troop F Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team alerted Spring Valley Police to suspected drug trafficking activity involving the Alvarez brothers near 1 Tallman Place and 9 Lawrence Street.
Over the following months, a joint investigation revealed that the brothers were distributing fentanyl pills disguised as M30 Oxycodone Hydrochloride tablets. In December 2023, authorities executed a search warrant, uncovering a cache of fentanyl pills, firearms, ammunition, a bulletproof vest, and U.S. currency. Both men were charged under New York State law with narcotics and firearms possession but were released on their own recognizance.
In March 2024, Spring Valley Police officers responded to the area of Tallman Place and Seabring Street after gunshots were heard. Officers recovered numerous shell casings and found property damaged by bullet holes. A subsequent search warrant led to the discovery of additional firearms, ammunition, and M30 fentanyl pills.
By February 2025, the Alvarez brothers were taken into custody by the FBI NY Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, working alongside Spring Valley Police and New York State Police. They were charged federally with narcotics conspiracy and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking and remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals.
On September 11, 2025, both Jonathan and Edwin Alvarez were convicted and sentenced to five years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
