The Village of Spring Valley Planning Board has officially signed off on a significant expansion project at the Finkelstein Memorial Library, paving the way for a long-anticipated upgrade that will dramatically expand services and capacity for local residents.
Work tied to the project has already begun, including the removal of an adjacent structure to make room for the new development. The expansion is expected to unfold in multiple phases over the coming years and is being funded through a combination of federal, state, and local sources.
According to plans reviewed by Monsey Scoop, the project will include the construction of a new three-story addition designed to accommodate a wide range of community needs. The expanded facility is set to feature dedicated classrooms for ESL instruction, citizenship preparation, and workforce development programs, along with a large community room intended for public events, lectures, and gatherings.
Additional enhancements will include space for counseling services and a multicultural section aimed at broadening the library’s offerings to better serve the area’s diverse population.
Upgrades are also planned within the current building, including a larger children’s area, increased seating capacity, and improved infrastructure. Accessibility improvements are a key component of the project, with plans calling for a new staircase and elevator to better connect all levels of the facility.
As part of the approval, the Planning Board also required improvements to the outdoor grounds, including the addition of a butterfly garden and a designated seating area for visitors.
Deputy Mayor Yisroel Eisenbach told Monsey Scoop, “This project represents a major investment in our community’s future. The expanded library will provide critical resources, educational opportunities, and a welcoming space for residents of all backgrounds for years to come.”

Who pray tell is going to pay for this. Our library taxes are high enough as it is without all this.
