SPRING VALLEY: No Left Turn or Straight Across Route 59 at South Cole — Right Turn Only Approved by Village Board

On Tuesday night, the Village of Spring Valley Board unanimously voted 5-0 to implement a new traffic restriction at the intersection of South Cole Avenue and Route 59 for vehicles coming from West Central Avenue. The change will prohibit left turns and through traffic, allowing only right turns onto Route 59.

The decision follows a detailed report by the Spring Valley Police Department showing a high number of accidents at that intersection during peak hours, off-peak times, weekends, and overnight—highlighting the urgency of safety measures.

The initiative was spearheaded by Trustee Shmuel Smith, who requested a comprehensive review of crash data and pushed for immediate action. The Police Department’s in-depth analysis helped guide the board’s decision.

This is the first step in improving safety at the intersection, and officials say the situation will be re-evaluated after implementation to determine if further changes are needed.
