Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced that Darius Williams, 34, from Spring Valley, New York, was found guilty of Assault in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree for an incident in the Village of Haverstraw.

On July 12, 2022, at around 6:08 pm, the defendant attacked a Haverstraw resident by slashing his face with what seemed to be a box cutter while the victim was walking with his wife on Broadway.

The victim and the defendant were not acquainted, and there was no apparent reason for the unprovoked attack. The Haverstraw Police Department investigated the case with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicole Garcia.

The defendant is set for sentencing on September 6, 2023, facing up to 7 years in state prison for each count.
