Deputy Mayor Yisroel Eisenbach of Spring Valley has successfully resolved a long-standing issue involving double billing for garbage collection services affecting several condominiums in the village.
In Spring Valley, residents typically pay for garbage collection services as part of their county tax bill. However, multi-family residences with four or more units are classified as commercial properties, requiring them to arrange private garbage collection. Despite this, many condominiums were being charged for both private collection services and garbage collection through the county tax bill, creating a significant financial burden for residents.
The issue was brought to the Deputy Mayor’s attention a few months ago by a resident from a condominium located at 6 Ewing Avenue near Route 45. Upon investigating, Eisenbach confirmed that these residents were paying for private garbage collection through companies such as Carlo Minuto Carting or IWS, while also being charged by the village for garbage collection they did not receive.
Further investigation revealed the problem extended to numerous other condominiums, including 37 Ridge Avenue, 43 North Madison Avenue, 31 North Madison Avenue, 111 Union Road, and others. Residents in these buildings were similarly paying twice for garbage collection.
After months of diligent work and negotiations, Deputy Mayor Eisenbach succeeded in ensuring that affected residents will no longer be charged for garbage collection on their county tax bill. This significant achievement affects between 50 to 75 families, each of whom will save approximately $800 annually.
“This is a huge accomplishment,” Eisenbach told Monsey Scoop. “It’s not just about the money saved but ensuring fairness and proper billing practices for our constituents.”
Residents have expressed their gratitude for the Deputy Mayor’s efforts, highlighting the importance of having leadership that listens to and addresses community concerns.
Huge accomplishment for whom?
This has been an issue for decades it’s now resolved because they only build multi family dwelling and passing their liabilities to the residents as usual
