Spring Valley Announces Changes To Recycling And Yard Waste Collection Schedule

The Village of Spring Valley is rolling out important updates to its sanitation schedule as part of a new contract taking effect May 1, aimed at improving cleanliness across the community.

Under the new schedule, recycling pickup will move from Wednesdays to Saturdays. The change comes as many residents receive deliveries midweek, leaving boxes and recyclables sitting curbside for days and often blowing around neighborhoods. Officials say the shift to Saturday pickup will help keep streets cleaner.

The updated recycling schedule applies to all commingled materials, including bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard.

In addition, yard waste collection will now take place once a week on Wednesdays, running annually from April 1 through December 31. Residents are reminded to follow proper guidelines to ensure pickup:

  • Yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves, and brush must not be mixed
  • Materials must be placed in biodegradable paper bags only (available free from the Village)
  • Plastic bags will not be collected
  • Loose branches must be cut to 4-foot lengths, bundled, and tied with twine

Officials are also urging residents to flatten and neatly stack cardboard boxes at the curb to improve efficiency and prevent overflow.

Residents are further advised that green and blue recycling bins are available free of charge through the DPW, provided by Rockland Green, to help properly separate and manage recyclables.

“This is something we’ve been working on for a long time, and with the new contract we were finally able to get it done. These updates will go a long way in keeping our streets cleaner and improving quality of life for residents,” Deputy Mayor Yisroel Eisenbach tells Monsey Scoop.

The Village added that Rockland Green continues to remind residents to follow all recycling and yard waste guidelines. More information, including recycling rules and pickup details, can be found here
