Spring Hill EMS held an all-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) event on Sunday, focused on Advanced Life Support (ALS) training as part of its commitment to delivering exceptional pre-hospital care.
The event featured lectures on critical ALS topics including ventilator management, pediatric assessments, and cardiology, led by a team of medical experts: Dr. Benjamin Chang, FNP Patricia Kivlehan, Dr. Yoram Amsalem, RRT David Zidile, Dr. Frank Aversano, Dr. Robin Kim, and Dr. Dennis Mao.
A standout moment came during Dr. Amsalem’s cardiology session, when he walked attendees through a real case from earlier that morning. A Spring Hill crew had transported a patient suffering a heart attack, and the patient was rushed to the cardiac catheterization lab where Dr. Amsalem performed a life-saving procedure. He reviewed the EKG and outcome during his presentation, giving participants an insightful real-world learning opportunity.
EMTs Chaya Rabinovich and Yisroel Ziegler were praised for their clinical judgment and fast action in identifying the seriousness of the emergency and ensuring the patient received rapid care.
While the training was underway, Spring Hill EMS members also responded to an actual cardiac arrest. Paramedics successfully administered Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), resulting in a return of spontaneous circulation. The patient was transported in critical condition, marking another cardiac arrest save for the department.
Spring Hill EMS thanked Good Samaritan Hospital’s Scott Frae and Medical Director Dr. Robin Kim for helping coordinate the event and securing a lineup of outstanding instructors. Special recognition was given to Lieutenant of Training Rebecca Finney, along with EMTs Jon Brown and Ephraim Tauber, for organizing the training session.
With its ALS program rapidly expanding, Spring Hill EMS continues to prioritize top-level training to ensure its providers are always prepared to deliver life-saving care.
