The South Spring Valley Fire Department, which serves most of Chestnut Ridge and surrounding areas, hosted its annual Safety Day Open House this past Sunday, drawing hundreds of children and families for an engaging and hands-on community event.
Firefighters showcased the department’s wide range of tools and equipment used during structure fires, vehicle extrications, and other emergencies, turning essential safety education into a fun and interactive learning experience for kids.
Department officials stressed an important reminder: dialing 911 does not just bring professionally trained volunteers, it brings a neighbor who is dedicated to protecting the community.
The department also announced significant growth, sharing that 15 new members have joined over the past year and a half, with all completing their New York State required firefighter training.
Residents who live within the district and are interested in joining are invited to visit the firehouse any Tuesday night at 7:00 PM to learn more about becoming a volunteer firefighter.
