A quiet Dorset Road home nearly turned into a disaster zone early Sunday morning—but thanks to a vigilant child and a life-saving smoke detector, an entire family walked away unharmed.
Around 4:30 AM, the piercing sound of a smoke alarm jolted one of the children awake. What he saw next was terrifying—a table engulfed in flames, ignited by travel candles that had been left burning overnight. Without hesitation, the child sprang into action, waking the rest of the household and prompting an urgent call to Hatzoloh. First responders immediately notified the Fire Department, which rushed to the scene.
Miraculously, the fire was quickly contained with only minor damage to the house. The outcome could have been catastrophic if not for the working smoke detectors and the child’s fast response.
Emergency personnel from Spring Valley Fire Department and Spring Valley Police responded to the scene. No injuries were reported, but responders say this close call is a powerful reminder of the importance of smoke detectors—and the dangers of unattended candles.

The tea lights should have been placed on aluminum foil or a plate.. The problem would never have happened.

LOOSERS…
Let’s set the record straight: Hatzoloh, and Chaveirim were on scene within 1–2 minutes, while it took the Fire Department 15 minutes to arrive. Had the family relied only on the Fire Department, they might have been left without a home. Thanks to the incredible response by these volunteer organizations, the family still has a house today.
We should all recognize and appreciate the dedication and lifesaving work of these community organizations
