A Ramapo Police officer was assaulted Wednesday night while responding to a call about a possibly intoxicated individual involved in a dispute on Orange Turnpike in the Village of Sloatsburg.
Upon arrival, the officer found the suspect trespassing on private business property. When the officer attempted to place the man under arrest, the situation escalated violently. The suspect broke free and punched the officer in the face with a closed fist before continuing to resist arrest by kicking. Despite the struggle, the officer was able to subdue the man and place him in handcuffs.
The suspect, a 32-year-old resident of Sloatsburg, was arrested and charged with Attempted Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Trespass. He is scheduled to appear in Sloatsburg Justice Court.
Authorities say this incident highlights the unpredictable and often dangerous nature of law enforcement work. The Ramapo Police Department reiterated its commitment to officer training and public safety, thanking the community for its continued support. The injured officer has returned to duty.
