Emergency personnel carried out a difficult rescue Sunday night after a hiker was injured on a trail near Lake Sebago.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., members of Spring Hill EMS were dispatched to the area for a report of an injured hiker. New York State Park Police made initial contact with the patient before EMS crews arrived on scene.
Due to the remote location and difficult terrain, the Sloatsburg Fire Department was requested to assist with additional manpower. Responders then hiked into the wooded area through muddy, wet, and slippery conditions caused by melting snow.
Working together, crews were able to safely package the patient and carefully extricate them from the trail. The patient was subsequently transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Officials praised the coordinated effort between agencies that helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
