SLOATSBURG: Electrical Fire Behind Sloatsburg Rest Area Causes Major Power Outage, Utility Crews Responding

The Sloatsburg Fire Department is currently on the scene of an electrical fire involving power lines that are down and burning in a wooded area behind the Sloatsburg Rest Area. Utility crews from Orange & Rockland (O&R) are also responding to assess and repair the damage.

The incident has resulted in multiple power outages across Sloatsburg. According to village officials, the main 69,000-volt feed that powers the area is down. O&R estimates it will take approximately three hours to reroute power and restore service to affected residents and businesses.

Ramapo Police Department officers are on-site, assisting with traffic control along Orange Turnpike. Drivers are advised to exercise caution while traveling in the area.

Residents experiencing power outages should report them directly to Orange & Rockland and avoid any downed wires. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
