Skvere Kehilla Dayanim of Monsey Resolve Kohanim Concerns Along Brick Church Road

Following questions raised by Kohanim regarding travel along Brick Church Road, where tree branches from cemeteries were extending over portions of the roadway, the Dayanim of the Skvere Kehilla in Monsey worked to address the issue and remove any concerns.

Although the matter involved a chumra and not a clear halachic prohibition, the Dayanim sought to ensure that Kohanim would be able to travel the road without hesitation. After discussions with the relevant parties, the overhanging trees were recently cut, eliminating the concern.

In a gesture appreciated by community members, the church responsible for the property reportedly covered the cost of the tree removal. Residents noted that the cooperative effort helped accommodate the needs of Kohanim.

  1. Maybe they can help take care of the issue in the Monsey cemetery.
It seems like it might be an issue for a kohen to make a right turn down any of the 2 roads in the cemetery.
And it seems like there is no one to talk to

  2. Kohein

What about New Hempstead Road cemetery? Althoigh only chumra as well, because not Jewish cemetery, the trees are overhanging the road directly from the cemetery very difficult to avoid…

  3. The entire Rockland population should be considered before recklessly and selfishly cutting down yet more perfectly healthy, necessary beautiful trees.

    • Let’s talk about selfish.

I believe most Rockland County residents are caring people. They would willingly sacrifice a few trees (from 2 million plus) if it means less inconvenience for another Rocklander even if said inconvenience is due to a religious prohibition/stringency.

Call me naive but that’s I what I would like to believe about our fellow Rockland County residents.

Thanks for your understanding on this matter.
