Single-Car Accident in Hillburn, NY: 80-Year-Old Woman and Cat Emerge Unscathed

A startling one-vehicle accident occurred Tuesday evening, as emergency services quickly flocked to the scene. At approximately 8:50pm, Ramapo Police, along with other emergency personnel, were called to a crash near the NYS Thruway exit in Hillburn.

A Toyota Corolla, driven by an 80-year-old woman from Arizona, was in the process of exiting the Thruway. As she attempted a left turn onto Route 17N, she misjudged the maneuver. The vehicle crashed through the guardrail, plummeting about 50 feet down an embankment.

Miraculously, both the elderly driver and her feline companion, with whom she was traveling cross-country, were not injured. Hillburn Fire Department personnel assisted in safely extracting the woman from her vehicle. For precautionary measures, she underwent a medical evaluation by Spring Hill EMS on-site.

RPD officers graciously transported the duo — the woman and her cat — to their station. The department is now actively assisting the traveler in making the necessary arrangements to resume her cross-country adventure.
