Senator Weber Announces Traffic Signal Improvements at Two Key Rockland Intersections

Senator Bill Weber announced progress on long-standing traffic concerns following his recent conversations with Village, County, and State officials.

In direct response to these concerns, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has confirmed upcoming significant signal timing improvements at two critical intersections:

Grandview Avenue & Route 306 (Rockland, New Hempstead, Wesley Hills) – NYSDOT will adjust traffic signal sequencing to provide additional green light time for vehicles traveling along Grandview Avenue. These adjustments are anticipated to be completed by the end of September 2025.

Cherry Lane & Route 59 (Rockland, Airmont) – NYSDOT will adjust traffic signal timing to improve northbound flow for vehicles turning onto Route 59. These improvements are anticipated to be completed by the end of October 2025.

Dedicated left-turn lanes at these intersections remain a possibility for the future through a long-term capital project. Such improvements would involve significant planning and investment, but Senator Weber intends to bring these ideas to the New York State Transportation Committee for review.

Senator Weber thanked Village officials from Airmont, New Hempstead, and Wesley Hills for highlighting their residents’ concerns and the responsiveness of County Executive Ed Day’s office and NYSDOT for addressing these concerns.

“These improvements are a direct result of residents and village officials making their voices heard and government at every level working together,” said Senator Weber. “I’m grateful to County Executive Day’s office for sending the letters of support my office requested to the NYSDOT and NYSDOT for acting quickly to make these intersections safer and more efficient for motorists.”

Senator Weber will continue working with village, county, and state officials to monitor the changes and advocate for long-term improvements throughout Rockland County.
