Senator Bill Weber’s Nonprofit Security Funding Seminar Enables Organizations to Apply for Millions in Security Funding

Rousing reviews continue to pour in from the dozens of grateful organizations who participated in New York State Senator Bill Weber’s informative Nonprofit Security Funding Seminar, which took place Tuesday night, October 29.

The event was presented at Rockland County Community College’s Technology Center. The evening focused on nonprofit schools and houses of worship at risk of hate crimes or attacks due to their ideology, beliefs, or mission.
A full panel of professionals in the grant writing and security field was on hand to share invaluable advice on the step-by-step process of applying for annual security grants and to guide organizations in preparing applications for up to $1,100,000 in the upcoming New York State and Federal security grants.

Security Grant Solutions (SGS) team of grant writers broke down the critical steps of the application process into manageable bites. Malka Millman, SGS Executive Director, clarified what makes an organization eligible and explained what the New York State and Federal security applications offer. She elucidated the differences between the two applications so organizations will be able to make informed decisions on which grant to apply for and what the funding covers.

Yocheved Acoca, SGS Senior Grant Writer, stressed the importance of being prepared before the grants are released. She simplified the often complex process into clear, actionable steps, providing links and user guides to assist organizations.

“By starting preparations early,” Yocheved advised, “organizations can be ready to focus entirely on the grant itself as soon as it becomes available.”

The Community Security Initiative (CSI) Director of Physical Security and Procurement Specialist, Dov Horwitz, reiterated the importance of getting the grant application process underway immediately while delving deeper into looking at the overall picture of security. He stressed that while these grants provide the tools for a safer facility, it is crucial to recognize that securing funding is only the first step. Equally important is implementing a comprehensive long-term approach to security, ensuring the funds effectively safeguard an organization.

Horwitz also explained how organizations can avail themselves of the multiplicity of user-friendly tools on the CSI website, which assist organizations in succeeding over every hurdle the grant writing process might throw their way.

“Taking responsibility for my constituents means being there to offer every opportunity that falls on my radar,” said Senator Weber. “Being able to provide this critical information to so many organizations who will be able to secure millions in funding, which will be utilized to save lives and protect our community from hate crimes and terrorist attacks, is a win-win for all.”
