In response to a rise in Lyme disease cases across the region, Senator Bill Weber is organizing a Lyme Disease Awareness and Tick Prevention Forum aimed at educating parents, camp counselors, and the broader community on how to prevent and respond to tick-borne illnesses.
The forum will take place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 4:00 PM at the Finkelstein Memorial Library’s Fielding Room, located at 24 Chestnut Street in Spring Valley.
The event will feature presentations from leading experts, including Dr. Azfar Chak, Chief of Infectious Diseases at Montefiore Nyack, Juliette Content, Public Health Education Specialist with the Rockland County Department of Health, and Kristen Ossmann, Horticulture Educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland County. Attendees will gain insight into current Lyme disease trends, effective tick prevention strategies, and practical tools for summer safety.
“With summer camps in full swing and outdoor activities in high gear, it’s critical that families, staff, and residents are informed about tick safety,” said Senator Weber.
The forum is free and open to the public. Attendees will receive complimentary tick removal tools, tick combs, educational brochures, and children’s activity books—all courtesy of Senator Weber’s office.
