Senator Bill Weber, alongside Town Of Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny, Town Of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann, and American Red Cross CEO Stephanie Dunn Ashley, officially launched the second annual Five Towns of Rockland Blood Drive Challenge this morning at Orangetown Town Hall.
The weeklong campaign encourages blood donations during the critical summer months and promotes a friendly rivalry between the towns of Clarkstown, Haverstraw, Orangetown, Ramapo, and Stony Point. Trophies will be awarded to the towns with the Most Blood Donations Collected and the Most First-Time Donors.
Senator Weber praised the community for its continued commitment to saving lives, stating, “This challenge isn’t just about numbers — it’s about neighbors helping neighbors and making a lasting impact.”
Last year’s drive yielded 111 units of blood and 64 first-time donors, with Clarkstown earning both top honors. This year’s goal is to exceed those figures.
To commemorate the launch, the Tappan Zee Bridge will glow red tonight in recognition of the effort. The challenge will run through Friday, August 1, with drives scheduled throughout the county. Residents are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and represent their towns in this vital cause.
