Senator Bill Weber’s Five Towns of Rockland Red Cross Blood Drive Challenge began this morning through August 3, aiming to increase blood donations and new donor registrations. The challenge features two competitions: one for the most blood donated and another for the most new donors registered.
Currently, only 3% of people donate blood, prompting the initiative to creatively boost participation. All five towns have agreed to participate, with town supervisors actively promoting the event. Winners in each contest will receive a custom-designed trophy.
The American Red Cross is supporting the effort by providing a $20 Amazon gift card to each blood donor. The kickoff event was held at the Finkelstein Library, where Senator Weber and Town Supervisor Michael Specht emphasized the campaign’s importance. In a further show of support, the Town of Ramapo is offering employees two hours off to donate blood.
Monsey Scoop reported on the full schedule of events, and the Tappan Zee Bridge was illuminated in red on tonight to mark the beginning of the five-day competition.
