State Senator Bill Weber released a statement Monday in response to the announcement by Nyack Mayor Joe Rand, who officially entered the race for New York State Senate District 38. Rand’s announcement, detailed in a Monsey Scoop report, available here, sets the stage for what is expected to be one of Rockland County’s most closely watched political contests.
Senator Weber welcomed the democratic process and reaffirmed his commitment to the residents of the 38th District, emphasizing his record of results-driven leadership and bipartisan engagement since taking office in January 2023. “Serving the people of Rockland County has been the privilege of my lifetime, and I fully intend to continue this work for many years to come,” Weber said.
Since entering the Senate, Weber has delivered major accomplishments across the district. As Ranking Member of the Senate Disabilities Committee, he has become a statewide voice on disability issues—bringing the OPWDD Commissioner to Rockland, advocating for meaningful reforms, and standing firmly with individuals and families with disabilities. He has also been a consistent advocate for both public and private education. Weber serves on several key Senate committees, including Education, Finance, Budget and Revenue, Consumer Protection, and Children and Families.
In the summer of 2024, Weber’s office held a bipartisan Foundation Aid Forum that played a pivotal role in securing an additional $38 million in state education aid for Rockland schools for the 2025–2026 school year. He continues to push for fair and equitable funding formulas across all Rockland County school districts.
Weber has also prioritized community engagement through veterans, seniors, and student advisory councils. His legislative achievements include the recently enacted Orangetown Preservation Fund and the establishment of the Senate Antisemitism Working Group, which has since introduced impactful legislation. His office has resolved more than 3,000 constituent service cases and hosted numerous community-focused events, including veterans’ appreciation gatherings, coat and school supply drives, senior fairs, and a five-town blood drive competition.
A strong supporter of law enforcement, Weber draws inspiration from his background as the son and brother of police officers. As one of only two Certified Public Accountants in the entire New York State Legislature, he brings rare financial expertise to Albany and has consistently advocated for fiscal responsibility, spending discipline, and eliminating waste on behalf of taxpayers.
Following a decisive win in 2022 and an even larger victory in 2024—tripling his previous margin—Weber said he is prepared for any future challengers. “I welcome competition from any opponents—it’s the American way,” he said. “I’m proud of my accomplishments in the NYS Senate, and I look forward to once again earning the overwhelming support of Rockland voters.”
