State Senator Bill Weber hosted his annual Veterans Appreciation Reception on Wednesday evening at the Nyack Seaport, bringing together veterans from across Rockland County and the surrounding region for an evening of recognition, fellowship, and gratitude.
The program featured an invocation by Korean War veteran Reverend Warren Brandt and included special recognition for 99-year-old World War II veteran Marty Hyman. Senator Weber also honored Susan Branam as his 2026 New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame inductee.
Branam, a U.S. Army veteran who served from 1993 to 2000, was among the first women to serve in combat aviation and fly the Apache helicopter. She also became the first woman assigned to the 6th Cavalry. During her military service, she conducted missions alongside Border Patrol and special task forces. Today, Branam serves as Director of the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency, continuing her dedication to supporting veterans throughout the county.
As part of the tribute to America’s veterans, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge was illuminated in red, white, and blue during the reception. Food and refreshments were provided for attendees as veterans, community leaders, and residents gathered to honor those who served in the United States Armed Forces.
