Senator Bill Weber Helps Resolve Veterans Day NYSDOT Work Zone Traffic Backup at Viola Road and Route 306

An inadvertent scheduling oversight by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) caused significant traffic congestion at Route 306 and Viola Road in Monsey on Veterans Day morning, when road work was underway at the intersection of Viola Road and Route 306. While the DOT scheduled the work anticipating lighter holiday traffic and the suspension of public transportation, they did not anticipate the hundreds of private school parents on the road for morning drop-off.

As congestion quickly built, many frustrated parents reached out to Senator Bill Weber’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Mort Becker, to voice their concerns. Mr. Becker immediately brought the issue to Senator Weber’s attention. Senator Weber promptly contacted senior officials at the NYSDOT, who acted swiftly to postpone the project and prevent further disruption during school dismissal hours today.

Parents expressed their appreciation to Senator Weber’s office and the NYSDOT for their quick response and cooperation in ensuring a smooth and safe afternoon commute for local families.
