When members of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office faced a serious issue with their retirement benefits that could only be resolved through state legislation, Sheriff Lou Falco turned to someone he knew would fight for law enforcement — Senator Bill Weber.
Senator Weber, who represents the majority of Rockland County and comes from a proud law enforcement family — his father and brothers are retired and active police officers — didn’t hesitate.
Understanding the gravity of the situation and the service these officers give to our community, he immediately went to work.
Weber and his team swiftly drafted two critical bills, Senate Bill S8208 and Senate Bill S8164, designed to correct retirement plan issues. He then worked across the aisle with Assemblymembers Pat Carroll and Aron Wieder, who carried the companion bills A8610 and A8628 in the Assembly.
Together, they pushed the legislation through both chambers in Albany.
As a result of their efforts, the issues have been permanently corrected.
“These men and women put their lives on the line to keep us safe. When they needed help, I had their backs,” said Senator Weber. “I’m proud we got this done — not just for these two Deputy Sheriffs, but for the integrity of how we treat those who keep us safe.”
These legislative wins demonstrate Senator Weber’s deep respect for law enforcement and his effectiveness as a state legislator in obtaining solutions for problems.
