New York State Senator Bill Weber continues to take direct action to strengthen access to child care subsidies, including personally addressing Commissioner Harris-Madden regarding the newly allocated $155 million in funding designated to support child care assistance programs outside of New York City.
His direct engagement elevates the issue for families across Rockland County and underscores the urgency of ensuring eligible families can access child care vouchers without unnecessary barriers.
Senator Weber sits on the Childrens and Families committee, as well as the prestigious Finance committee and brought his advocacy and concerns directly to the Commissioner. By engaging the agency’s top leadership, he reinforced his commitment to working at the highest level to improve implementation, transparency, and accountability within the program.
During the discussion, Commissioner Harris-Madden acknowledged that communities outside of New York City face critical needs and ongoing challenges that require significant funding and attention.
With child care expenses continuing to place a substantial strain on working families, Senator Weber has emphasized that funding alone is not enough. Families must be able to navigate the system efficiently and receive timely approval for assistance.
Senator Weber has consistently raised concerns about approval delays, administrative hurdles, and the availability of voucher slots for eligible children. He has also stressed the importance of ensuring that suburban communities such as those in Rockland County receive fair consideration when child care resources are allocated statewide.
Framing child care access as both a family and economic priority, Senator Weber noted that when parents cannot secure affordable child care, workforce participation declines and local businesses feel the impact. Reliable child care enables parents to maintain employment, pursue education and training, and contribute fully to their communities.
“Affordable child care strengthens families and strengthens our economy,” Weber said. “We need a system that provides sufficient funding and works efficiently to deliver the necessary results for the people it is meant to serve.”
By bringing the conversation directly to agency leadership, Senator Weber continues to demonstrate his hands-on approach, focused on results and accountability for working families in the 38th Senate District.
