As Monsey Scoop reported, the Ramapo Police Department (RPD) swiftly responded to a security threat at Suffern Senior High School today. At approximately 7:05 a.m. on Thursday morning, authorities were alerted to the potential presence of explosives within the school premises.
The Suffern Central School District immediately activated its evacuation protocol, ensuring the safety of students and staff, while the RPD initiated a meticulously coordinated response tailored to address the specific nature of the threat.
Leading the response efforts was the RPD K9 Unit Supervisor, in close collaboration with the Ramapo police officer assigned as the Suffern High School School Resource Officer (SRO). Additionally, they received valuable assistance from explosive detection canine teams provided by law enforcement partners including the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, and the Town of Woodbury Police Department. This multi-agency response was further bolstered by the support of the Tallman Fire Department, Faist Ambulance, Rockland Paramedics, and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad.
After an extensive search of the school building and its surroundings, no explosive devices were found. Consequently, the district administration deemed it safe to reopen the school to both faculty and students at approximately 10:05 a.m., easing concerns among parents and community members.
In response to the incident, the Ramapo Police Department’s Investigations Division, in cooperation with officers assigned to Federal task forces, has launched an active criminal investigation. Their focus is on identifying and prosecuting those responsible for this threat. The Suffern Central School District has extended full cooperation throughout the ongoing investigation.
The Ramapo Police Department expressed its gratitude to the students, parents, faculty, and staff for their patience and cooperation during the morning’s incident. They also extended their appreciation to the various law enforcement and emergency services partners for their invaluable support in ensuring the safety and well-being of the school community.
As the investigation unfolds, the community remains vigilant, with authorities determined to ensure the safety and security of Suffern Senior High School and its students.
