A new initiative, the Pesach & Sukkos Initiative (PSI), has been launched to help families in need with their Yom Tov grocery expenses during Pesach and Sukkos. Spearheaded by a group of local baalei battim and backed by philanthropist Reb Lazer Scheiner, the project is set to provide significant financial relief for families facing hardship. The enrollment deadline for this initiative is tonight, to ensure that participants receive their cards in time to shop for Sukkos.
Reb Lazer Scheiner, who contributed a major donation and serves as the driving force behind the initiative, has collaborated with RSK and community leaders to bring this initiative to life. The program has gained the support of leading Rabbonim to ensure it addresses the pressing needs of Monsey’s families.
How the New PSI Initiative Works
The new PSI initiative is designed to reduce the financial burden of Yom Tov grocery shopping by offering eligible families a 50% discount at participating stores. After a simple enrollment process, families receive a card linked to their phone number, which they can use to access the discount at checkout.
The program allows families to make discounted purchases until they reach a pre-set spending limit based on family size. The available credit can be used through Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan, with the following limits:
- Up to 3 children: 50% off up to $1,000
- Up to 6 children: 50% off up to $2,000
- 7 children and up: 50% off up to $2,500
- 10 children and up: 50% off up to $3,000
PSI will raise 25% of the funds from donors, while the remaining 25% will be contributed by the family’s shul or kehilla.
Deadline Tonight
Families in need are urged to complete their registration by tonight’s deadline to ensure timely delivery of their PSI cards. This will allow families to receive their cards by Motzei Shabbos, ensuring they have ample time to shop for Sukkos essentials without waiting until the last minute.
PSI will prioritize applications submitted by tonight’s deadline, with a 5-day review period followed by card delivery via mail. Cards will be activated through the phone number used during registration and can only be used by the registered family.
Eligibility and Enrollment
Families in the Monsey area facing financial difficulties are encouraged to apply. Registration links have been sent to all participating kehillos, and families must register by tonight at 11:59 PM.
Community Support
The new PSI initiative, facilitated by RSK, exemplifies the strength of community efforts in ensuring that every family can enjoy a Simchas Yom Tov. With the support of donors, baalei battim, local kehillos, and philanthropists like Reb Lazer Scheiner, PSI is expected to make a meaningful difference for families in need.
