Thousands of Rockland County residents who receive a discounted toll for crossing the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge must update their E-ZPass accounts to continue benefiting from the program. The New York State Thruway Authority recently sent letters to nearly 60,000 customers, informing them of the recertification requirement. The discount allows eligible Rockland residents to pay $5.40 per trip, which is $1.35 less than the standard New York E-ZPass toll.
Approximately 235,000 residents receive the discount, and about 75% of them have already been automatically renewed after meeting the necessary requirements. However, those who received a letter must take action to maintain the discount.
To keep the reduced toll, Rockland E-ZPass users must ensure that both their E-ZPass account address and the license plate linked to each E-ZPass tag are registered in Rockland County. Customers have 30 days to complete the recertification process by contacting E-ZPass customer service via phone, mail, or online at e-zpassny.com. Instructions on how to update the information were included in the mailed notices.
Thruway Authority spokeswoman Jennifer Givner emphasized the importance of the recertification process, stating that it ensures only eligible residents receive the discount. “We understand the importance of these discount programs for lower Hudson Valley residents,” she said. “This due diligence protects customers who are eligible for the discounts. This is also part of our efforts to collect every toll dollar owed to us.”
The Cuomo Bridge’s resident discount program began in January 2021, and recertification will now be required every two years. Residents who no longer qualify for the discount do not need to take further action.
For more information, Rockland residents should check their mail for instructions or visit the E-ZPass website.
