Rockland DA Announces Arraignment of Garnerville Man on Kidnapping and Weapons Charges

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that on Tuesday, September 30, 49-year-old Eduardo Hernandez of Garnerville was arraigned in Rockland County Court on an indictment charging him with Kidnapping in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.

According to court filings, the incident occurred on September 14, 2025, at approximately 5:25 p.m., when Hernandez allegedly attacked a woman outside a home in the Village of Haverstraw. Prosecutors say he grabbed the victim by the neck, held a screwdriver to her throat, and threatened her with deadly force in an attempt to prevent her from escaping. The woman was able to fight him off and call for help.

The following morning, investigators located Hernandez’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in Stony Point around 9:15 a.m. Authorities said Hernandez fled on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody by the Haverstraw Police Department.

“When someone commits a violent act, the impact extends far beyond the victim. It shakes our entire community,” said District Attorney Walsh. “This is why we will fight vigorously for a successful prosecution.”

The investigation was led by the Haverstraw Police Department, with assistance from the Stony Point Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.

The case is being prosecuted by Supervising Assistant District Attorney Gerard M. Damiani III of the Special Victims Unit and Senior Assistant District Attorney Kaitlin DeLuca.
