Rockland County’s nominee for the MTA Board, Neil Cosgrove, is demanding answers from Governor Kathy Hochul after nearly two years of inaction on his appointment. In a newly released video, Cosgrove criticizes the delay, questioning whether the state is deliberately blocking Rockland’s voice from being heard.
“There must be some insecurity that they’re that afraid of a quarter vote,” Cosgrove said. “If there’s an issue with me, please tell me what the issue is. I don’t think I’ve done anything in my life that should cause this angst in appointing me. But if there’s an issue, let’s be honest.”
Rockland County has lacked representation on the MTA Board throughout the congestion pricing debate—a major decision that impacts local commuters. Cosgrove dismissed excuses about the state needing multiple candidates, arguing that the process should not be manipulated to avoid appointing a representative the governor disagrees with.
“Does Rockland really have a voice? Or does Kathy Hochul want to disenfranchise Rockland again and pick the county’s candidate herself?” he asked. “This isn’t about my ego—it’s about ensuring Rockland has a real say in the decisions that affect us.”
Cosgrove, who has attended MTA Board meetings and spoken as a commuter, emphasized the need for change and accountability. With two years of delays, Rockland officials and residents are calling on Governor Hochul to take action and confirm the county’s rightful representative.
