Rockland County residents should prepare for a mix of winter weather tonight and into Monday, which could impact travel across the region. Snow is expected to begin before 1 a.m., transitioning to a mix of rain and snow between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., followed by freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow, after 4 a.m. Temperatures will drop to around 31°F overnight with a light east wind. Accumulation is expected to be minimal, with less than half an inch of snow and little to no ice.
By Monday morning, freezing rain may persist until 7 a.m., followed by a mix of rain and freezing rain until 10 a.m., and then transitioning to all rain for the rest of the day. Patchy fog may develop after 1 p.m., with temperatures gradually warming to a high near 45°F. Snow accumulation is expected to remain under half an inch, with minimal ice accumulation.
The Town of Ramapo, through the Office of Supervisor Michael Specht and the Highway Department, advises residents to expect snow to begin between 8 and 10 p.m. tonight. As air temperatures hover near freezing, road surfaces may stay colder, creating the potential for freezing rain and icy road conditions even as air temperatures warm to the mid-30s by daybreak and near 40°F by midday Monday. Total snowfall in Ramapo is expected to be less than 1 inch, likely closer to ½ inch, with ice amounts predicted to be under 0.05 inch.
Residents are encouraged to exercise caution while driving, particularly during periods of freezing rain, and to stay off the roads if possible.
