Remnants of Tropical Storm Debby is expected to bring heavy rainfall, potential flooding, strong winds, and severe thunderstorms Friday into Saturday. Starting around midday Friday, Debby is expected to merge with another storm system, producing between 2–4 inches of rainfall, with the heaviest rain forecasted to begin Friday afternoon into the evening.
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel while those who need to travel should remain vigilant and adhere to any temporary signage or traffic instructions in place.
The County Highway Department crews regularly check and clear the thousands of catch basins throughout Rockland ahead of storms to ensure no debris prevents water drainage. Clogged catch basins can be reported to our Highway Department at 845-638-5060.
“We encourage residents to report any issues with road conditions or any other storm-related concerns to proper authorities,” said County Executive Ed Day. “We also extend our sincere appreciation to the public works staff, emergency responders, and road maintenance teams who always go above and beyond during challenging periods like these for the safety and wellbeing of our residents.”
New York State Emergency Operations Center in Albany will be open monitoring the storm as well and will be in direct contact with our Fire & Emergency Services. We remind the public to call 911 in the event of an emergency and never touch or approach any downed wires. Always assume it is energized and dangerous and report it to O&R immediately at 1-877-434-4100. Depending on the situation, you may also consider calling your local police to divert traffic from the downed wire’s location until an O&R crew arrives.
