The Rockland County Warming Center, located at the Dr. Robert L. Yeager Health Center campus in Pomona, will officially open for the winter season on Friday, November 1st. Operated by the Rockland County Department of Social Services (DSS), the facility provides overnight shelter for up to 75 homeless single adults each night throughout the cold months. DSS also manages a separate Emergency Family Shelter for children and families.
“This Warming Center remains a critical resource in protecting our most vulnerable residents from the harsh conditions of winter,” said County Executive Ed Day. “I am incredibly proud of the collective efforts that make this possible, and I commend our dedicated team for their unwavering commitment to the well-being of those in need.”
The center operates nightly from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., and will remain open during daytime hours when the temperature, including windchill, drops below 32°F. In addition to providing a safe and warm environment, guests will receive hot meals, showers, and laundry services. On-site staff will assist individuals with benefit applications, job placement support, housing referrals, and other essential services.
