Voters across Rockland County headed to the polls on Tuesday, May 20, casting ballots on high-stakes school budgets and Board of Education races. More than $1 billion in spending was approved countywide, with a mix of incumbents and new faces elected to local school boards. Here’s a full breakdown of results by district:
East Ramapo Central School District
Voters approved the East Ramapo Central School District’s $348.3 million budget by a margin of 1,246 to 622. All four Board of Education candidates—Hiram Rivera, Sabrina Charles-Pierre, Yitzchok Gruber, and Ephraim Weissmandl—ran unopposed and were elected to their respective seats. Rivera fills a seat previously held by former board member Eric Young-Mercer, who resigned mid-term.
Clarkstown Central School District
The $265.3 million budget passed 2,798 to 879. John Maltbie (2,057 votes) retained his seat on the board, and newcomer Christopher Conti (1,974) won the second seat, defeating Eamon Rankin (1,587).
Nanuet Union Free School District
Voters approved a $93.87 million budget (507-113) and a $3.37 million library proposition (484-106). Sue Frisch (530) and Gianna Apicella (509) won seats on the school board. Sheila O’Brien and Mette Rossi were re-elected to the library board.
North Rockland Central School District
The $302.8 million budget passed by a vote of 707 to 157. A proposition to fund renovations at North Rockland High School also passed 724 to 144. Incumbents Robert Masiello (718) and Ida Mannine (681) retained their seats.
Nyack Public Schools
Nyack’s $112.5 million budget was approved 997 to 184. Jennifer Manca (703) and Michael Mark (692) were elected to the board, while incumbent Matthew Watson received 643 votes.
Pearl River School District
Despite a proposed 2.42% tax levy increase exceeding the state cap, the $88.2 million budget passed overwhelmingly, 1,424 to 334. Denise Caunitz (1,413) and Patricia Reilly (1,408) were elected, while Michele Bosco received 412 votes.
South Orangetown Central School District
Voters approved the $115.2 million budget 1,865 to 556. Steven Finn (1,456) was re-elected to Seat 1. John Savage (1,214) unseated incumbent David Sansone (1,076) for Seat 2.
Suffern Central School District
The $170.5 million budget passed 1,759 to 484. Roxanne Bryan (1,901) and Jason Andert (1,820) were elected to the Board of Education.
