A Winter Weather Advisory has been expanded to include Rockland County, with snow expected to impact the area overnight through Sunday morning. Residents are urged to prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions and potentially hazardous travel.
Forecasters are calling for 2 to 4 inches of snowfall, with localized totals of up to 5 inches possible in some areas. Snow is expected to fall at rates of up to one-half inch per hour, particularly between midnight and 11:00 a.m. Sunday. The snow is expected to be dry and powdery, which may lead to reduced visibility during periods of heavier snowfall.
Temperatures will hover in the lower to mid-30s overnight before dropping into the mid-20s by Sunday morning, allowing snow to accumulate on roadways. Motorists should anticipate snow-covered roads, reduced visibility of less than one mile at times, and difficult driving conditions, especially from late Saturday night through Sunday morning.
Snow is expected to taper off by mid to late Sunday morning.
Officials advise drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution if heading out during the storm.
