Rockland County is under a Winter Weather Advisory as a light snow event is expected to impact the area late tonight into Tuesday morning, potentially creating slippery travel conditions during the morning commute.
Light snow is forecast to begin developing between approximately 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., with snowfall becoming more likely by around 6:00 a.m. Snow is expected to continue through the late morning and into the early afternoon, tapering off by approximately 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., with dry conditions returning thereafter.
Forecasts call for 1 to 2 inches of snow, primarily on grassy and elevated surfaces, with the snow having a wet consistency. Pavement accumulation is expected to remain under one inch. Pavement temperatures will be near or slightly below freezing during the onset of the snow, then rise above freezing by mid-morning, leading to wet and slushy road conditions.
Valley areas may see a brief mix of snow and rain, while higher elevations could experience a short period of freezing rain, creating isolated slick spots. High temperatures on Tuesday are expected to reach approximately 35°F. South to southwest winds will be sustained at 4 to 8 mph, with gusts up to 15 mph.
Motorists are urged to use caution during the Tuesday morning commute, slow down, allow extra travel time, and stay alert for changing road conditions. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring weather updates and remain weather-aware.
