Rockland County will once again participate in Operation Green Light, illuminating the Allison-Parris Building in New City and Building A at the Pomona Health Complex from November 4th through November 11th in tribute to veterans.
The initiative, now in its fifth year, aims to honor veterans of all military conflicts while raising awareness about the challenges they face and the services available to them through county, state, and federal programs.
“We thank all our veterans for something often taken for granted — our freedom,” said County Executive Ed Day. “For all who chose to serve and protect our liberties, we hope our participation in Operation Green Light serves as a reminder that we do not take your sacrifice lightly.”
Susan Branam, Director of the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency (VSA), added, “Anytime our veterans can feel like they are not alone is a powerful message. My hope is that all of Rockland lights up in green this Veterans Day week to show our heroes how much they are supported.”
Residents are encouraged to participate by changing one light in or outside their home to a green bulb as a visible show of appreciation.
The Rockland County Veterans Service Agency will be giving away free green lightbulbs on Thursday, October 30th, and Friday, October 31st, while supplies last, at 20 Squadron Blvd., Suite 101, New City, NY.
Operation Green Light is a joint effort of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), National Association of Counties (NACo), National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO), and the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency.
By shining a green light, residents are helping spread one clear message — Rockland County sees, appreciates, and supports its veterans.
