Rockland County to Conduct Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) Test on January 9

Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services, in coordination with the Rockland County Emergency Management Division, announced that a live test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system will take place on January 9.

Wireless Emergency Alerts are short emergency messages sent directly to cell phones to help keep residents informed and safe. WEA messages may be issued for severe weather, evacuation or shelter-in-place instructions, AMBER Alerts, and other immediate threats to life and safety.

County officials say the test is being conducted to ensure the system functions properly when it is needed most. Residents are reminded that staying informed is a key part of emergency preparedness.
