Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Welcomes New K9 Team in Honor of Fallen Officer

Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco III has announced the newest addition to the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) K9 Unit—Patrol Officer Mark Colon and his K9 partner, Reedy.

K9 Reedy, a 14-month-old German Shepherd from Poland, was acquired through asset forfeiture funds. The dog is named in honor of Patrol Officer Michael J. Reedy of the Orangetown Police Department, who, along with Patrol Officer Thomas Kennedy, was tragically killed by a drunk driver while directing traffic at an accident scene on Route 303 in Blauvelt on August 2, 1973.

Next week, PO Colon and K9 Reedy will begin Patrol School, a rigorous training program led by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Upon successful completion, K9 Reedy will be certified in tracking, evidence recovery, criminal apprehension, handler protection, and narcotics detection.

The RCSO welcomes its newest K9 team and extends best wishes to PO Colon and K9 Reedy as they embark on their training journey.
