The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office proudly announced the graduation of Patrol Officer Mark Colon and his K9 partner, Reedy, from the K9 Patrol School hosted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The duo successfully completed an intensive 18-week training course and are now New York State DCJS Certified in tracking, article searches, handler protection, and apprehension.
K9 Reedy, a 14-month-old German Shepherd imported from Poland, was named in honor of the late Patrol Officer Michael J. Reedy of the Orangetown Police Department. Officer Reedy was tragically killed on August 2, 1973, along with Officer Thomas Kennedy, when they were struck by a drunk driver while directing traffic at an accident scene on Route 303 in Blauvelt.
K9 Reedy was acquired using asset forfeiture funds secured by Sheriff Louis Falco. Looking ahead, the new K9 team will return to training this fall to become certified in narcotics detection. The Sheriff’s Office extends its best wishes to Officer Colon and K9 Reedy as they begin their service to Rockland County.
