Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Launches “Blue Envelope” Program to Support Drivers with Autism

In a bid to enhance communication and safety during traffic stops, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office has adopted the “Blue Envelope” program, a nationwide initiative aimed at assisting drivers with autism. The program encourages individuals with autism to store their driver’s license, registration, insurance card, and other essential documents in a distinctive blue envelope. This immediately alerts law enforcement officers to the driver’s condition, helping to prevent potential misunderstandings during interactions.

The initiative, supported by the New York State Sheriff’s Association, is part of a broader effort to raise awareness about the program among law enforcement agencies across the country. By familiarizing officers with the Blue Envelope Program, the goal is to foster better communication and ensure a safer experience for all parties involved.

Drivers with autism in Rockland County can obtain a blue envelope by contacting the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office at 845-638-5401.
