The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division officially launched the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) and Fire Priority Dispatch System (FPDS) on Tuesday, marking a significant advancement in the county’s emergency response capabilities.
Implemented with the support of Priority Dispatch Corp. and backed by training and protocols developed by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), the new systems place Rockland among more than 4,000 public safety agencies nationwide — and in 59 countries — using these industry-leading dispatch standards.
The launch also included the rollout of the ProQA dispatch software, which went into active service almost immediately. The first emergency call utilizing the system was received at 9:16 a.m. Tuesday, reporting a tractor-trailer fire involving hazardous materials in Orangeburg.
Officials praised the smooth implementation and quick deployment of the new technology.
“Congratulations to all the staff at the Communications Division for this great achievement,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The upgraded systems are expected to enhance the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of emergency responses throughout Rockland County.
