The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, together with law enforcement agencies, community organizations, businesses and volunteers from across the region, hosted its annual Ronald McDonald House Day in the Country on Tuesday, giving children and their families a memorable day away from hospitals, appointments and medical treatments.
The annual event provides children staying at Ronald McDonald House and their families with an opportunity to leave the city for the day and enjoy a variety of activities in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Throughout the day, the children enjoyed swimming, pony rides, ice cream, toys and time with members of law enforcement from throughout the region.
The event was hosted on behalf of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the Rockland County Sheriffs Deputies Association, the Correction Officers Association of Rockland County and the Corrections Superior Officers Council of Rockland.
A special thank-you was extended to Kurt Krucker of Krucker’s Catering & Picnic Grove for once again donating the grounds and food for the event. Vincent Abbatecola of Abbey Ice donated water, Brian Stevens of Juckas Riding Stables provided pony rides, and Uncle Mike’s Ice Cream helped provide treats for the children.
Joe Segelbacher and the Marine Corps League Toys for Tots also provided toys for every child attending the event.
Numerous law enforcement agencies participated, including the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, NYPD, Port Authority Police Department, New Jersey Palisades Interstate Parkway Police, Spring Valley Police Department, Orangetown Police Department, Piermont Police Department, Ramapo Police Department, Haverstraw Police Department, Stony Point Police Department, Suffern Police Department, New York State Police, New York State Park Police and New York State Park Rangers.
Members of the New York National Guard also participated, along with Major General Ray Shields.
Organizers thanked all of the officers, volunteers, businesses and organizations that donated their time, resources, food, transportation and entertainment to make the annual event possible.
For several hours, the children were able to put aside the challenges they are facing and simply enjoy a summer day swimming, playing and spending time with their families and members of the community.
