The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division has officially received a renewal of its Agency Training Program Accreditation (ATPA) from APCO International, marking another significant milestone for the county’s 9-1-1 operations.
The ATPA program verifies that the Division meets the highest national standards for training emergency dispatchers. The comprehensive accreditation process evaluates more than 150 different areas of 9-1-1 dispatcher training and is reviewed by an independent evaluation committee made up of emergency communications professionals from across the country.
The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office is one of only two agencies in New York State — and the only agency in the Hudson Valley — to earn this prestigious national accreditation. This marks the Division’s third accreditation cycle, having originally achieved the distinction in January 2020.
Nationally, fewer than two percent of the 5,748 public safety answering points (9-1-1 centers) across the United States have earned ATPA accreditation, underscoring the significance of this accomplishment.
The Division’s training staff will be formally recognized at the national award ceremony scheduled to take place in San Antonio, Texas, in August 2026.
